Hudson was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Academy Award-winning actress Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson, an actor, comedian and musician.Her parents separated when she was 18 months older and she, along with her brother who was an actor, Oliver Hudson, were raised in Snowmass, Colorado, and Pacific Palisades, California by her mother as well as her mother's longtime partner actor Kurt Russell.Hudson's roots are Italian (from her maternal grandmother), Hungarian Jewish (from her maternal grandmother),and the rest are a mix of English and a little German.She was raised Jewish and like her mother she is also a practitioner of Buddhism.Hudson has stated that her biological father "doesn't know me from a hole in the wall" and that she considers Russell as her father.Hudson has said that her mother is "the person who I've gained the most knowledge from, and the person I look up to and who has led her life in a manner that I can admire". There are four half-siblings, namely Emily and Zachary Hudson, from her biological father's later marriage to actress Cindy Williams; Lalania Hudson as a result of his affair with a different woman; and Wyatt Russell, from her mother's relationship with Kurt Russell.In 1997 Hudson graduated from Crossroads which was a college preparatory school located in Santa Monica. She was admitted to New York University, but determined to pursue a career in acting instead of pursuing an undergraduate degree.
