Catherine Ford is a British actress born in Bloomsbury. When her father left her family members, she was brought up by her mother godparents, and grandmother. As a child Ford experienced anxiety related to an obsessional-compulsive condition. Ford was interested in the profession of acting in her teens and was a part of the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after just one week she realized that she wasn't a good fit. Ford decided to apply for the Central School of Speech and Drama, finally winning a place on her fourth application. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford was able to graduate in 1993, but she already had her TV debut on a show in 1992 called Surgical Spirit. She adopted the name Catherine Tate. Tate made appearances on television during the Nineties with shows such as The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. The regular theatre work she performed led her to join the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. Tate gained recognition for her stand-up comedy and became part of her portfolio in 1996.
